#1 How to deal with error message“xTool Creative Space” can't be opened because it was not downloaded from the App Store?

#2 Why the machine can not cut through the materials?

1. Check if the laser head connections are secure.

2. Check if the parameters are set at proper values (Parameter Setting for xTool D1 Engraving & Cutting with Materials).

3. Check if the protective lens is contaminated or even damaged. Clean or replace it if so.

4. Check if the air nozzle is blocked by dirt, if so remove the air nozzle and clean it

5. Confirm if you have refocused after changing materials. If not, please refer to the following steps

  a. Place your material under the laser head.

  b. Put down the support rod

  c. Loosen the rotate screw, the support rod will touch the material.

  d. Prop up the support rod

  e. Tighten the fixing screw manually.

6. Make sure the platform is flat, and the material surface flat. If the platform or the material is not flat, please place the device on the flat table and change other materials so that the surface is flat.

7. Gradually increase the number of passes or appropriately reduce the cutting speed

 

#3 Why the USB connection is not successful?

Cause: The serial port driver is not successfully installed.

For Windows

Solution

1. Ensure that you have used a USB cable to connect your device to the computer and turned on the device. (Ensure that the USB interface of the computer works properly).

2. Download the CH341 driver at

The system may instruct you to restart your computer during installation. Follow the instructions.

3. Open Device Manager and check whether the CH341 driver is installed.

On Windows, when a hardware device is inserted into the computer, the system automatically identify the device and include it in the device manager. We can view the serial port in the device manager by performing the following steps:

(1) Right-click My Computer (or Computer) and choose Manage.

(2) Choose Device Manager in the window that appears. Click Port. Check if the serial port of USB-SERIAL is CH340

The information COM3 included in the parentheses is the serial port.

If you can see the CH340 driver on Device Manager, D1 is supported to identity the serial port properly.

If you can see the driver but D1 still fails to identify the serial port, the identification program of D1 may be blocked by the security software. Close such software as 360 security or computer housekeeper, and reinstall  again.

For macOS

Solution

1. Ensure that you have used a USB cable to connect your device to the computer and turned on the device. (Ensure that the USB interface of the computer works properly).

2. Download the CH341 driver at

The system may instruct you to restart your computer during installation. Follow the instructions.

3. Allow the CH341 driver after the restart.

The system instructs you to restart the computer once again after you click to allow the installation of CH341.

Restart the computer. After the preceding operation, D1 is supported to identify the serial port of your device.

If no "Allow" option is provided in step 3, go to step 4.

4. For macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later, kernel extensions can be installed only when users agree. D1 uses the CH341 serial port driver. You can connect D1 only after you agree to install the CH341 serial port driver.

Solution

(1) Start the command-line terminal: Choose Go > Utilities > Terminal.

(2) Copy the following command: sudo kextload /Library/Extensions/usbserial.kext/

(3) Paste the command on the terminal and press Enter.

If the Password command appears, enter your computer user password and then press Enter. The following information is displayed:

(4) Choose System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. You can see that the program is blocked. Click Allow.

 

#4 How to deal with machine stops working in the middle in USB mode?

1. Check if the software and firmware need updates. You can refer to [XCS] Check for Software Updates; [XCS] Check for Firmware Updates

2. Check if the Sleep mode was enabled and if the computer entered the sleep mode when the problem occurred. It is suggested to disable the Sleep mode.

3. Check and make sure it was the original USB cable which obtain a good connection.

4. Try another USB port on the computer and try again.

5. Check if the motherboard is rebooting by observing whether the indicator on the motherboard is blinking blue for a while.

6. Change to use Wi-Fi for processing. Due to the USB processing method is to upload part of the data and then process part of the data, there will be data processing conflicts during the processing process resulting in processing pauses in USB mode.

In W-Fi mode, project data can transfer to the machine all at once, which can reduce the stop in the middle issue.

#5 Why is the carving task misplaced in the middle?

1. Check whether the X axis belt Y axis belt tightness is appropriate, you can refer to the video link to adjust the belt tightness

2. If adjusting the belt tightness is suitable still can not be solved, please check whether the X motor synchronous pulley is loose, you can refer to the following chart to fix it.

#6 Why the WIFI connection is not successful?

1. Make sure the TF card is installed.

2. Make sure to exit VPN software.

3. Make sure the name and password of the WiFi network contain only English letters or numbers.

4. Make sure the WiFi network does not require verification to get connected.

5. Make sure it is a 2.4GHZ WiFi network instead of 5GHZ.

6. Make sure the WiFi antenna is in good condition and properly mounted.

 

#7 Wi-Fi can't be automatically connected after configuration, why?

Possible causes:

The IP address of the Wi-Fi network is changed. The IP address used when you restart the machine is not the same as the one you used for configuring the Wi-Fi network.

xTool D1 connects to the Wi-Fi network according to the IP address.

Solution:

  • You can use your mobile phone to set a hotspot, configure the Wi-Fi network and restart the software to connect your machine again.
  • Set a fixed IP address for the Wi-Fi network

#8 With a task sent in WiFi mode, the indicator blinks red after the start button is pressed, why?

Possible causes:

1. the TF card is malfunctioning. Replace with another one (maximum capacity: 32G) and try again.

2. the WiFi network. Switch to your mobile phone hotspot and try again. Remember to connect both your computer and D1 to the same hotspot network.

3. the WiFi network. You may try sending the task a few more times in case the task is actually not sent successfully. You could insert the TF card into your computer with a card reader to check for the task file to see if that is the case.

#9 Why can the machine not be turned on?

1. Confirm whether the adapter socket has power

2. Whether the adapter is the official adapter, if not, use the official adapter

3. Use a multimeter to measure the input voltage of the mainboard. if there  is a 12V input voltage, but the machine will not power on, then we need to replace the mainboard

#10 No laser beam after D1 starts processing. Why?

Possible causes:

  • A low Power value.
  • An insecure cable connection to the Laser Module.
  • A reversely inserted Laser Module cable.
  • The Laser Module connection cable is broken.
  • The motherboard is malfunctioning;
  • The Laser Module is malfunctioning.

Solution:

(1) Check if the Power value is set to a low one. If so, try with a higher value.

(2) Check and make sure the Laser Module cable is intact physically first. Replug the connection cable at both ends. Make sure they are not inserted reversely.

(3) Replace the Laser Module,

a. if no red cross and indicator lights (red one and blue one) do not light up on the board of the Laser Module;

b, if the red cross does not disappear after it starts processing;

c, if the indicators (red one and blue one) on the Laser Module board do not light up after it starts processing

(4) Replace the motherboard, 

a, if the indicator does not light up on the motherboard;

b, if the indicators light up normally on both the motherboard and the Laser Module board.

 

#11 Inconsistent spacing between the X-axis beam and the frame on the left and right.

The coupling is locked without aligning the X-axis during assembly and can be adjusted in just four steps

1. Find the coupling shown in the picture below
2. Use a hexagonal wrench to remove the screw that secures the coupling
3. Hold the coupling with one hand and push the X-axis to the top with the other hand until the two ends are aligned
4. Use a wrench to tighten the screw of the coupling

#12 There is a noise when the machine is working.

1. Check if the laser head is in contact with the material causing the friction sound.
2. Check whether the guide is rusty, X-axis up and down guide, Y-axis left and right guide are lubricated refer to the following link:

3. Check whether the X-motor synchronous wheel is topped to the profile, if so, please adjust the synchronous wheel position 5mm from the top of the motor shaft and fix the screws

4. Check whether the table is level. The machine will be placed on the flat table if it can not be solved. Continue the next step

5. Check whether the machine screws are too tight or too loose, adjust to the appropriate tightness, it can not be solved continue to the next step

6. Check whether there is a foreign body on the slide bar, remove clean, it can not be solved continue the next step

7. Check whether there is a gap in the contact surface

 

#13 The Laser Module does not move on the Middle Plate (X-axis direction) during processing, why?

1. Check the X-axis motor cable connection at both ends. Replug the cable if it loosens or is not inserted in place.

2. Turn the machine over and check the X-axis timing belt. If it is not installed properly, reinstall it.

3. Check whether the X-axis motor cable is visibly damaged. Take the X-axis motor cable out of the motor end to see if the terminal pin of the motor is bent. At the same time, check whether the X-axis socket pin of the mainboard is bent. If the wire is broken, the X-axis motor wire needs to be replaced.
4. If there is no problem with the wire, move the laser head manually from left to right, and observe whether the X-axis motor shaft and the synchronous wheel rotate.
If the laser head cannot be moved manually from left to right, there may be a problem with the drive assembly of the belt and motor.
5. If the laser head can be moved normally manually from left to right, and the X-axis motor and synchronizing wheel can be driven, exchange the X-axis motor wire and the Y-axis motor wire on the motherboard side, and then go framing.
If it still fails to move on the X-axis, there may be a problem with the X-axis motor cable and the X-axis motor, and the X-axis motor and X-axis motor cables need to be replaced.
If it moves on the X-axis, but not on the Y-axis, there may be a problem with the X-axis drive of the motherboard, and the motherboard needs to be replaced.

#14 Cooling fan does not work.

1. Reinsert the cooling fan cable

2. Check whether the laser head and the motherboard connection cable is inserted into place, shut down and reinsert it and then turn on the computer to try, if the issue can not be solved for the next step

3. If the laser head can move normally engraving, the fan still does not work, is the fan is bad, need to replace a new one

 

#15 Cooling fan makes a noise when the machine is turned on.

1. Check whether there is a foreign body inside the fan, remove clean, such as can not be solved for the next step

2. After shutdown and reinserting the fan plug, it can not be solved for the next step

3. Replace the fan

 

#16 When connecting the machine, it keeps prompting that no TF card is inserted.

1: Check whether the TF card is inserted, if not, you can find the TF card inserted from the accessories package

2: Check whether the TF card is inserted backward, re-plug the TF card

3: TF card with a card reader into the computer to see if it is effective, if not TF card is bad, replace the TF card try again.

4: The above methods still can not be solved, replace the motherboard

 

#17 How to ensure that the graphics in the material engraving/cutting stay within the material?

Since the starting point of D1 work starts from the current laser head's IR cursor position by default, in connection mode, after each click, it is necessary to send

If it is exceeded, you need to move the material position to cover the laser head's trajectory, click the boundary again and observe until the laser head's trajectory is completely within the material surface area, then click the start button.

 

#18 How to deal with smoke when cutting/engraving?

Try to put the machine in a ventilated environment to work; you can put a fan to blow the smoke to the outside.

 

#19 Why the firmware update is not successful?

Cause.
- Some customers' computer configuration is too low resulting in unsuccessful upgrade, replace the newer system computer can complete the firmware upgrade

How to upgrade the firmware for D1?
If the above methods still do not work, you can try to replace the USB interface and try again.

5. If there is the upgrade progress bar and the upgraded logo keeps rotating, you can close the software, restart the connected machine, check the updated firmware and provide a screenshot.

6. If the firmware version is V0.0.B0, you just need to re-upgrade the firmware refer to the below link.

How to upgrade the firmware for D1?

7. If it is already the latest firmware version, and it still prompts to update the firmware, please turn the upgrade switch of the motherboard to the non-upgraded state. Unless you have the firmware version in mind, you can adjust the switch to the upgrade state position to upgrade the firmware.

#20 How do I set the tightness of the timing belts?

Y-axis belt

(1) Loosen screw 1 and then spin screw 2 to set the tightness.

(2) Spin the screw clockwise to tighten the belt, and spin it counterclockwise to loosen it.

(3) Make sure that you set the timing belts on the left and right plates with the same tightness.

(4) After setting the tightness, tighten screw 1.

Attention:

If you find that the Y-axis belt cannot be tightened no matter what
It is possible that the left synchronous pulley of the Y axis motor is out, please loosen the Y axis belt, install the slide bar in place and then tighten the Y axis belt.

X-axis belt

(1) Loosen screw 1.

(2) Spin screw 2 clockwise to tighten the belt, and spin it counterclockwise to loosen it.

(3) After setting the tightness, tighten screw 1.

#21 The machine has no limit switch; the laser beam will continue to move even when it hits the machine.

Before cutting, you need to click on the go boundary to make sure that the processed drawing does not exceed the machine's processing area.  

 

#22 What is the function of the buttons on the main board of the machine?

The button on the left is the restart switch. When pressed, the machine will restart

The button on the right is the switch to upgrade the firmware; you need to toggle the button to the right to update the firmware successfully.

#23 Whether the laser will hurt the eyes without wearing the glasses?

You do not need to wear glasses; the laser head is equipped with a protective shield, and direct viewing will not damage the eyes.

 

#24 Why the crosshair is oblique and not directly below the laser head?

The Cross cursor relative to the laser light-emitting point has a 16mm spacing, the cross cursor is used to frame, when the laser head starts, the laser will move 16mm to the left (X direction), and then start working according to the initial position of the cross cursor, so not in the center is normal.
About the cross cursor lines are not straight, this is due to the refraction of the laser shield, which will not affect the actual carving effect

#27 Why does the rotary engraving result distort and shift?

1. Please confirm whether the surface of the material is smooth if it is glass and other smooth surface objects, It is necessary to wrap the beauty tape on the surface of the material to prevent slippage.

2. Please make sure that you are using a bitmap image, the cylinder will rotate back and forth caused by slippage when using vector graphics, you can convert the vector graphics to a bitmap and engraving.

#28 Why I received the rotary attachment without the ring code label, is it missing?

#29 Why does the rotary attachment engraving result in a mirror image or just a line?

#30 After the machine is assembled, the Y-axis can't move when it's working, why?

Possible causes:

The motor cable of the Y-axis loosens or the timing belt is not installed properly.

Solution:

1. Check both ends of the Y-axis motor cable. If it loosens or is not inserted in place, re-plug it properly.

2. Check whether the belts on the left and right sides of the Y-axis are installed in place, if not, install them in place according to the figure below.

3. Check whether the Y-axis motor wire is broken or the skin is damaged. Take the Y-axis motor wire out of the motor end to see if the terminal pin of the motor is bent. At the same time, check whether the Y-axis socket pin of the mainboard is bent. If the wire is broken, the Y-axis motor wire needs to be replaced.


4. If there is no problem with the wire, move the laser head by hand from left to right, and observe whether the Y-axis motor shaft and the synchronous wheel rotate together.
If the laser head cannot be moved by hand (forward and backward), there may be a problem with the drive assembly of the belt and motor.


5. If the laser head can be moved normally by hand (forward and backward), and the Y-axis motor and synchronizing wheel can be driven, exchange the Y-axis motor wire and the X-axis motor wire on the motherboard side, and then move the frame to observe the Y-axis motor. axis and Y-axis motion,
If the Y-axis still cannot move, there may be a problem with the Y-axis motor cable and the Y-axis motor, and the Y-axis and Y-axis motor cables need to be replaced.
If the Y-axis can move, but the X-axis cannot move, there is a problem with the Y-axis drive of the motherboard, and the motherboard needs to be replaced.

 

#31 Why does it not frame after pressing the button as instructed in XCS?

1. Turn off D1, reinstall the TF card and turn it on before trying again.
2. If the problem persists, exchange the TF card with another one in case it was damaged.

 

#32 How to switch the positioning mode between Red cross and Laser spot?

: Step1. Connect the D1 to your computer via the original USB cable and switch it on.

Step 2. Click Connect device if it is the first time or wait for it to auto-connect if there was a successful connection before.

Step 3. Click the gear icon, and click Working parameters. Select Red cross or Laser spot as the positioning mode.

Step 4. If Laser spot is selected as the positioning mode, you need to enable it after clicking Process.
