1. What materials can Laserbox cut/engrave?

Laserbox can cut/engrave: cardboard, corrugated cardboard, wood board, acrylic board, fabric, leather, mat board, two-color board, PET, rubber, wood veneer, fiberglass, plastic, Corian, and dozens of other materials. Basically, non-metallic materials can be cut and engraved. If you need to cut/engrave other materials, you can send us a cutting/engraving test.

 

2. Can the Laserbox only cut/engrave official materials?

The Laserbox can cut/engrave non-official materials. Still, official materials' cutting/engraving parameters are tested repeatedly, so there is no need to manually set focal length, speed, power, and other parameters, guaranteeing a good cutting/engraving effect and excellent operation experience. In addition, the function of what you draw is what you get is limited to the official material.

 

3. How thick of material can Laserbox cut through?

It can cut through 15mm tung wood boards.

 

4. Can Laserbox cut/engrave metal?

No. Laserbox cannot cut metal. The type of laser determines this. All CO2 glass laser tube-based lasers cannot cut metal. Laserbox can engrave metal, such as engraving iPhone cases (the cases are anodized aluminum).

 

5. What kinds of materials are not suitable for cutting/engraving?

Chromium (VI) contains leather and artificial leather, such as leather goods, leather products.

Carbon fibers (carbon), e.g., carbon fiber products: caps, plates.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), e.g., plastic products.

Polyvinyl butyral (PVB), e.g., laminated glass, film.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE / Teflon), e.g., plastic products.

Beryllium oxide, e.g., high conductivity oxide ceramics, beryllium alloys, etc.

And materials containing halogens (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, and astatine), epoxy resins, or phenolic resins.

If laser engraving or laser cutting processes are performed on the above materials, dust or gases may be generated that may be hazardous to the laser equipment operator or the laser machine function. Therefore, we do not recommend the use of laser equipment for processing these materials.

 

In addition, do not use the following types of materials.

Uneven materials

Moist materials

Filthy materials

Material that exceeds the restricted material size

The use of poor quality materials may result in poor cutting/engraving results and may cause damage to the equipment. It is recommended that official makeblock materials be used.

  • I prefer to upcycle products such as packaging materials, glass bottles/jars, milk & juice jugs, pop cans etc. Which items can be used and which cannot?  I am not sure from your list of non-acceptable materials any of these apply.
